Waiting on Lucy Pearl…

It is with great excitement that I announce we are now matched with a wonderful birth mother and expecting a precious baby girl in the coming months! The girl we have prayed for, longed for and desired for so long, our Lucy Pearl, is finally becoming a reality. As you can imagine, our hearts are unbelievably full as we anxiously await her arrival.

Matched 1

After everything we have walked through, we know our hearts are in God’s hands and trust in His plan, not ours. Because of the hope in our hearts and peace in our souls, we are enjoying every single part of this adoption journey. We aren’t allowing the enemy to steal one moment of joy. From the surreal and momentous doctor visits and ultrasounds to the overhaul of the nursery in preparation for a girl at the farm, the spirit of Lucy Pearl is all around and bigger than ever (read more about Lucy here and here).

God’s plan for our family is woven into several amazing layers of our adoption story and I can’t wait to share more in the future. Until then, please pray for the birth mother, the sweet baby girl in her womb and for families on all sides. We will all be embarking on a special journey in the next couple months and our lives will be forever changed because of this precious baby girl. The Lord certainly knew what He was doing when He wrote this story. You just don’t even know, my friends!

Matched 4

Oh Lucy Pearl…we can’t wait to meet you one day soon. We love you more than words can express. You are coming home…sweet girl…you are coming home.

Matched 5

On another note, I’m sure most of you are wondering where we are in our foster care journey. We certainly didn’t expect to be matched so soon after commencing our foster care training but we believe the Lord placed it on our hearts for a reason and decided to continue our foster care certification. There is one last home visit along with our final reference letters and we are done! We shall see what the future holds for our growing family.

Matched 9

Since updating is on the agenda, I might as well share tidbits about our loving farm crew too. Ruby has not only grown in size but also in personality. She never gets tired of some good ole’ snuggle time and is ready and waiting for Lucy to give her endless scratches, kisses and hugs. As for Freedom…well, he’s always waiting and watching at the gate to see what is new on the horizon. If he only knew what is around the bend for our farm family. We may need to find Freedom a pony friend for Lucy Pearl and hopefully Sparkle won’t mind.

The horses were the first to see the commotion when Sandra and Trixie were introduced to the Gypsy Chick flock recently. One wonderful thing about having farm friends is the sharing of animals from time to time. A close friend needed to downsize her flock in order to introduce a few new show-quality chickens. Our farm was lucky enough to be on the receiving end of her downsizing.

Sandra, a buff laced Polish (above), and Trixie, a white Silkie (below), were added to the flock and everyone seems to be getting along and living in peace.

Matched 10

Now, Jeff is not alone in his awkwardness. He and Sandra can look like goobers together.

Matched 13

See what I mean? Goober.

Adding these interesting girls to our farm has brought an even bigger smile to my face. I’m a certified chicken queen and there’s no turning back now.

With the flock changes and the change in season, a change in our animals’ water system moved to the forefront. We were using water buckets in the barn and in the front pasture but as temperatures rose, we realized Ruby needed water readily available in the shade of our back pasture. My cowboy worked tirelessly with a friend trenching and laying water lines one weekend.

Matched 7

A project we thought was much further down on the “to-do” list is now finished and working great.

Matched 8

Because of our upcoming July arrival, spring and summer projects are on the fast track. We are preparing the farm for some much needed time off when Lucy Pearl meets the world so that we can soak in all the feels. All the waiting, all the hard work, all the tears and all the heartache will be worth it when we finally lay eyes on the sweet baby girl the Lord handpicked for us. In the meantime, we wait patiently…

Welcome! I am the bayou gypsy, born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Although I have spread my wings in the great cities of Austin, Seattle and Delray Beach, the bayou state kept calling me back home in 2007. Thank goodness for the pull back home because that is where I met and married my husband, Andrew. We relocated to 7 acres in Zachary, LA and have started life on a farm. It's the land of bayous, fishing, hunting, four wheelers, trucks, nutria, deer, cows, three rescue pups named Abby James, Dixie and Gypsy, two rescue horses named Sparkle and Freedom, 20 chickens, 2 turkeys named Leroy & Luann and everything else southern. I have started this personal blog to chronicle our new found farm life, the battles and blessings of our ongoing infertility, our recent adoption and the exciting adventures this bayou gypsy and her cowboy get into on the regular. I dabble in a little bit of everything and will share it all with you one wild ride at a time. Come wander with me...y'all!
